Doorman training

Part of my job invloves working doors or large clubs in my area and we have to go on several courses to able to work (UK) - you have to get a doormans license, do you need anything similar in the US or elsewhere?

I think that depends on the place you work at... Here in the US I've seen some doorman at bars and clubs that don't need any special license. I think this is because where I live it is a somewhat quiet and calm area. Maybe in some cities of the US and in some places it is required to have a license and special training but that depends.

It would be intersting to know, as from experience its the more backwater places where you get the most trouble, the bigger the venue generally the less trouble
