For those that own a gun, have you told people that are close to you that you own one or do you keep that private?
I have heard guys bragging about the different types of guns they own and that any criminal would be stupid to try and break into their house or hurt his family. I'm sure some even pull them out when company are over to "show them off". That's when accidents can happen if the chamber wasn't properly checked.

I never tell anyone, not even close friends and family - word has a habit of spreading. I keep it in a locked ca***et, and the ammo is locked up seperately. You can't be too careful

This is the same for many people. I think that people that do this in this manner are purposely do this as a means of protection in any manner. Only those doing it might understand what I mean. People who brag or show off their guns only do it out of stupidity in my opinion.

Yes it's definately stupidity and it shows from the accidents that happen and people get hurt and even killed. Some didn't learn how to respect what a gun means and they learn the hard way.

I don't think it is a smart idea to let people know that you own a gun. The word spreads pretty fast and if someone is going to break in to your house and they know that you have a gun, they might shoot you as soon as they see you because they know you might use your gun too. So they'll try to wound or kill you before you get the chance to defend yourself

All my friend that own guy show them to me but don't show them to people they don't know . You would show it to some one that you think is your friend and not some one that can put in a problem

I think that's a sound, responsible approach to it. I don't think it's proper to brag about it. If people knew you had a gun, they might even be breaking into your house for it. Who knows?

I do have several guns at my house and I do not tell anyone other then my wife. The last thing that I would want is for someone to break into my house so as to steal my guns.

Keeping it private especially right now is avery good point. I would not allow anyone who really does not need to know that you have one. For those that had to go through the process to get one, the people who need to know according to law know. So why tell anyone else.

If I own one then I wouldn’t tell anyone because it might start up a fight. Some people will think that you are trying to scare them and thus they are going to think some bad things against you. A gun is only for self-defense and nothing to brag about.

Yeah that is right owning a gun has nothing to be bragged about. It should be exclusively used in case of dire situations when you or your loved ones are under some threat.

Don't buy a gun just to make yourself feel big and powerful. When you get to showing off just to inflate you ego, things could really turn dangerous in just a blink of an eye. If you want to feel good, then maybe you could buy a nice car and show it off.

I agree with you Flo and it is just another example why in my eyes the public should not carry around. People often seem to getting guns for all the wrong reasons.

I will tell it to my family. Of course I will not tell them where I keep it.
I will teach them about gun safety so that he will respect what it is and what it can do. I think you should tell them and teach them how to be responsible with one.
