The majority of UK casulties are caused by road side bombs, the question I have is why are the British forces still using the lighlty armoured landrover and not something more fitting with the situation?

There is a replacement coming on line that is far more suited to the type of warfare being seen in Iraq, its just down to cost I guess. It so sad though to see our boys losing thier lives so neeedlessly

I am not sure that cost is the only factor in it. Honestly how safe would you feel if you frequently seen the same type of vehicles in your cities as are being used in the middle east. You might feel safe, but would your life change because of it .

Road side bombs are a big think in Iraq as far as I've heard. Sometimes they even place bombs on donkeys and put them on the side of the road and then detonate the bomb whenever the troops are around.

I have been in Afghanistan and I have seen first hand the effects of what road side bombs can have. Unfortunately it is all about money which is why many troops have poorly armored vehicles.

Jamesb Afghanistan has been the most disturbed area for quite some time, we have heard that there any thing can happen any time-there are lot of causalities as explosions occur very frequently, is it really this way.

Yes it is indeed extremely dangerous. The problem is not only in Afghanistan as troops in Iraq are facing the same problem. You can not always detect these road side bombs until it is too late.
