What do you think is the safest country on earth (if there is actually one)? Or which countries do you think are pretty safe and secure to live in and why?

Speaking on a strictly crime standpoint I believe Japan would be at or near the top.

All countries have areas that are more safe than other areas. There are also natural disasters that should come into the equation too.

I would tend to agree with Drew Japan must be up near the top, however i do remember the Tokyo subway gassings. I personally would go for somewhere like Finland or Denmark

Safest country, its a good one. I think somewhere quite small would probably safest from terrorists threat, some where like the West Indies islands

Well, I do not think that Japan is the safest, as I have been there many times and am a meber of a forum about Japan as well. The news shows ever increasing domestic and crime going on. This happen most everywhere. I have heard very little about places like Ireland or Sweden.

I agree attagirl. I don't think Japan is the safest country. I think I'll bet on New Zealand or Switzerland. Switzerland has one the world's lowest murder rates and the country has virtually no violent crime.

I have lived in countries around the world and the two safest countries in which I have lived have been Switzerland and Singapore. I have also been in a number of African countries and they were completely the opposite.
