Can a universal biometric ID card be beneficial to overall security or does forcing people to carry one infringe on their rights?

I know a lot of people were against the Real ID act. What are your opinions on the issuance of biometric ID cards?

I just found out that a surveyto find out what people from the UK, Europe and, indeed, around the world think of the UK's proposed Biometric Identity (ID) Cards. and here are the results that I found...

The Survey currently shows that of all the participants ( 71% men and 29% women ) who have done the Biometric ID Card Survey to date, 49% are against the implementation of Biometric ID Cards, 40% support their introduction and 12% are undecided.

49 is a huge percentage.. my organization has not implemented any security measure as such but if they do in the future i think i may agree to it reluctantly.. needless to say i love my job.

If half the people are against it then they'll have a hard time implementing this type of ID. I have to agree with the 49% who against it.

thats true but most of the time we have managment and even the HR implementing such measures even if most of th eemployees are against it.. all they have to say is its in the best interest of the organization and you dont have much of a choice then

I don't see a problem with bio-metric cards and nor should anyone one who has nothing to hide, it would certainly help cut down on fraudulent transactions and traval

I agree - it takes out the element of human error. I'd be quite happy to have my eyes / fingerprints scanned at airports etc instead of queuing up for someone to look at my passport - too many people coming in on false passports, that's why immigration is outta control.

I don't see as to how it infringes on your rights, if you drive you are expected to carry your driving license with you, in the US you are expected to have ID at any moment. whats is the problem with it?

I have to agree that how does it infridge on your rights, your information is already spread out on so many computer databases. Doctors keep medical records, the DMV keeps those records, if you live in a place that requires a work card with a FBI background check then you have fingerprints somewhere. So it is very difficult to say that you would be against something like this. Maybe this might be the ultimate way in protecting a persons identity.

With biometric ID card/information(retina scan, fingerprint, etc.) you can verify the user's identity. I think people who're afraid of this kind of stuff have something to hide or maybe scared of getting caught doing something illegal.

Definitely, I oppose the global biometric id has it works against a individual's soverignity, rights and freedom. This can work in home country but others is doubtful. Even at home, sometime can be used for falsification or impersonation. So, it is better dealt after serious discussion.

I am a big fan of a biometric ID card. If it can help us with a more safe society then I would say let us go ahead with that. I think that the government knows more about us then we already think.
