As far fetched as it may sound there are people today walking around with microchips implanted under their skin in their arm and they just have to swipe their arm by a scanner and all their information comes up.

This is another issue of technology possibly going too far. It's almost like Hitler "tagging" all the Jews with a number. Would you be willing to implant a microchip in your arm?

I think this is going way too far. I don't think this is any different that having an ID card that you can swipe by a scanner. So I think and ID card would work the same and it is less extreme and way cheaper.

I think one of the reasons they would want to do it is because they'll know where it is at all times and it will never get lots, unless you lose your arm of course.

It's a technology that won't come into play on a national or international level any time soon. There are people who are using this technology right now though.

I found it interesting that I came across an article about this very thing today considering I just posted about the implantable microchip....
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19904543/

It mentions how they want to use the chips and talks about those who already have them implanted. One of the ways they want to use it is to track Alzheimer's patients. Of course it will lead to many other people getting "chipped".

Its a very good article, but the thought of tagging does seem to be one step to far in closing in on personal liberties and for one would definatley not support implants

I would not allow that, it is going a bit too far. There is a big difference between a card and a chip, unless they put a device on the card that hooks to sattelite, so they can tell where you are. I know that if they use a chip like they do in pets, this is exactly what they can do. I read somewhere that they want to put them in kids as a safety precaution. Now go ahead and you have your kid tagged for life.

I don't think that we will see something like that any time soon however I do believe that something like this will happen with the sim cards of your telephone. The government can already find out a great deal about you due to your mobile phone.

Let's not get paranoid. I'd love it to be able to pay for everything with a waive of my hand, or to open doors and safe deposits like that. It's a technology that makes life easier for us all.

Well in some ways we have already moved towards that scenario. We can now basically purchase anything with a chip card or credit card and our mobile phone allows authorities to pin point our location.
